Event Horizon Empire State Building

No, that figure standing on the edge of the Empire State Building isn’t a “jumper.”  This month, Event Horizon hosted by The Ace Hotel kicked off in NYC’s Madison Square Park.  This new public art exhibit designed by British artist Antony Gormley features 31 life-size sculptures scattered throughout The Flatiron District.

The figures, which are tailored to Gormley’s likeness, are located both in the park and on many landmark buildings including The Flatiron Building, The Empire State Building, and The New York Life Building.  The unique public art display is intended to inspire viewers to pause and notice their unique urban surroundings.  The bronze and fiberglass figures will encourage visitors and New Yorkers alike to “look up” and embrace the architectural grandeur of NYC.

In order to build upon the artistic appreciation of Event Horizon, The Ace Hotel (the event’s sponsor) has launched a photo and video contest.  Each week the Ace Hotel will collect photo and video submissions that relate to the exhibit (namely interesting photographs of the figures).  Weekly prizes will be released, the picture above won this week's contest.  All photographs can be submitted to: eventhorizon@acehotel.com

The Ace Hotel

The Ace Hotel is Event Horizon’s primary sponsor.  This venue, houses the newly opened Breslin Bar & Dining Room.  The 130-seat restaurant features a chef’s table which overooks the kitchen.  The Breslin is available for private events.

One of NY’s greatest rooftop venues has gotten even better.  Perched atop this space is one of Gormley’s 31 statues.  To make matters even more appealing, 230 Fifth offers one of the best rooftop views for Event Horizon.
